Sindi Nene (born 28 April 1988) is a South African multi-instrumentalist best known as a Mnet Idols VI 3rdfinalist, bassist and singer flexible enough to draw upon many genres in her live performances and compositions. To date, Sindi has one of the most unique & biggest voices in Africa; she studied Jazz and Popular Music Diploma at University of KwaZuluNatal Howard College School of Music and learned how to play multiple instruments.

Early Life and Education

Sindi was a music enthusiast from a very young age having noted in her most recent interviews that she discovered her passion for music at a very early age and already she started composing her own lyrics and melodies, by the age of 12 Sindi was part of her local church choir.


Born and raised in KwaZuluNatal, Durban, partly raised in North West, Rustenburg then moving to Kempton Park Johannesburg before returning back to Durban, Sindi went on to enrol at UmlaziHigh School as it was one of the few schools that had music as a subject at High School level, already she had started working on her set goals to become a musician. After passing Matric, Sindi joined the University Of KwaZuluNatal School of Music in 2007 to further her studies in music at advanced level started doing foundation in Jazz and Popular Music which was an introduction to the musical programme and in 2008 she went on to do first year level in Music theory and history and because of the change of her practical instruments to Bass as first practical instrument and Piano she had to do her practical subjects in foundation year and those practical subjects were, Ensemble, Improvisation, Bass practical and second practical Piano. In 2009 she did her music theoretical subjects in the second year and her music practical subjects in the first year and in mid 2010 during her second year in music practical’s, Sindi had to put her studies aside as she challenged herself by auditioning on the popular reality TV show MNetSouth African Idols which went on to put a spotlight on her and her musical talents.
